And maybe a little error here :)

Soooo… know how you’ve been just coasting along every little bit of evidence and all the documents lining up perfectly and then you find one little piece that just messes the whole thing up?

Yep…it happened again. Ollie Whitney’s husband Albert Taylor Long was pretty much clsoed off research with his parents, grnadparents and all set in stone. Then today while looking for something on Ollie unrelated to Albert, I find his obituary which just torpedoes what I had.

Here’s his Obit:

Albert T. Long.

Albert T. LONG, 54, died Monday at his home, 508 Forrest Avenue. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Tressie Long of the home; two sons, Walter Long and Sherman Long, and his father, Sherman Long, all of Topeka. The body was taken to Conwell’s Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

It lists his father as SHERMAN LONG…but I’ve had it perfectly figured out as ANDREW C. LONG! I mean there’s a Andrew Long in St. Joseph in 1910 with a son the right age named Albert T. Long, one year later Ollie marries Albert Taylor Long in St. Joseph. So, who’s the daddy this time?

With this family’s naming practices Sherman might be a nickname or alternant name for Andrew, they could be two totally unrelated people, or who knows. Of course there’s no listing for them in either 1900 or 1930 (Ollie and Albert had divorced by then). So, time to add Albert Taylor Long to the great mystery pages!

Finally let’s add this: Here’s a mention of a Sherman Long that might be his father in another person’s obit:

He is survived by two brothers, Adran LONG and Sherman LONG, both of Topeka; two sisters, Mary E. ALLEN of Eskridge, Kan., and Samantha CAREY, Fairbury, Neb., 12 nephews and 13 nieces. The funeral will occur at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the home of a niece, Miss Manday ALLENDORF, 805 North Van Buren St., Topeka, with burial in Mount Auburn cemetery. The body will lie in state at the ALLENDORF home from 10 o’clock this morning until 2 o’clock this afternoon.

So is this guy Albert’s Uncle or a coincidence???

More when I find out!!

Albert was probably the son of sherman the son of Strawder. He may have had an uncle Andrew.
